Earlean Marsh: Watercolor, oil, pastel, calligraphy,
china painting, and pen & ink
The challenge of perserving in watercolor the fragile beauty of flowers has been my main goal the last five years. It's also a way of prolongin summer beauty and personal memories from flowers given by friends. I tend to keep things and this is a way of saving something concrete from a very specific moment in time. There's so much beauty around, especially if you narrow your focus and get close. Sometimes the beauty is in wwater or the way the light is striking objects.
I like the unpredicability of mixing colors wet in wet as well as more controlled linerar details on dry paper. Vivid colors and dramatic details increase my enjoyment. Oils, pastels, even china paint are too predictable to currently hold my interest.
As a former high school art and drama teacher, I've taught lots of different classes from drawing to designs. Now that I'm retired I have the leisure of painting three or four days a week and taking workshops and classes during the day. I like to achieve balance by taking classes from instructors that are completely opposite in styles and methods.
