Lynn Butler was born in 1953 in bustling Seattle, Washington. Lynn’s father’s work had her family moving frequently, the most noteworthy of locations being the Hawaiian Islands. The oldest of three sisters (frequently mistaken for triplets), Lynn was eager to make her way in the art world having grown up with brilliantly creative resources to fuel her passion - her mother and father. As a child, Lynn’s favorite toy was her box of 64 crayons which she used with true artists fervor.
As the years passed, her crayons were replaced with paint brushes, clay, and glass. She married her college sweetheart in 1973, the politically savvy and Peruvian born Consul of Peru, Oscar Flores. His love of the arts combined with hers lead to their pursuit of a true artists’ life. Their first combined creation was their daughter Sylvia, born in 1974.
Throughout the 80’s and 90’s Lynn’s life took her from Oregon to Maui and back again. The dramatic change in landscape, coupled with her husband’s pursuit of his own artistic endeavors launched Lynn’s art life into a full, rich, and complex bloom. A self-taught watercolorist, Lynn’s eye for beauty has been captured in Asian inspired paintings sold to enthusiastic collectors around the globe.
Now thoroughly rooted on eight acres in Eagle Creek, Oregon, Lynn has been creating beautiful things for her entire life - from her wild-by-design acre sized garden, to her recently constructed studio coined - the church of dirt and glass - her life, and everything she touches seems to transform into a magnificent creation.
And Lynn’s life is always spinning in new and unexpected ways. Not wishing to be contained in any one art box, Lynn has taken her love of clay to new levels with dramatic, unique pottery. At the same time, Lynn works in the ancient art of fused glass, creating magnificent one-of-a-kind jewelry. No matter what Lynn creates, the Asian theme seems to be a common thread.
Besides the Spiral Gallery, you can discover Lynn’s work at Art on the Boulevard in Vancouver, Washington.
