Tacy Jones

Tacy grew up in SW Portland. In 1978 she moved to Eagle Creek where she and her husband have been living for over thirty years. She has been a math and alternative education teacher since 1992.

She recently began showing her artwork. Her medium of choice is rock and wool yarn and from these she creates jewelry and felted bags.

Tacy and her husband Christ have enjoyed rock hunting as a hobby for 25 years. They have traveled throughout Oregon as well as Montana, Idaho, Washington, Utah, and Nevada. In 2009 they acquired lapidary equipment and set up a rock shop behind their house. They began working with the rock they collected over the years. The process includes cutting, shaping, grinding, sanding, and buffing. This transforms the rock into a piece of jewelry, a bead, or a button. As one holds the finished piece, they will notice the hard, smooth, weighty texture.

Crocheting has been a hobby of Tacy's for many years. At some point in time she discovered felting which is crocheting with wool and washing it in hot water. Tacy crochets and felts bags and bowls of many shapes and sizes. Color is an important factor in her felt work and to adorn the felted items she uses beads and buttons made of rock. The weight and texture of both rock and felt work compliment each other.
